Rapper claims Lyft driver refused her ride

A plus-sized rapper, Dajua Blanding (stage name Dank Demoss), is suing Lyft after a driver allegedly refused her ride, claiming she was “too big to fit in the back seat.” On January 18, Blanding ordered a Lyft to attend a football watch party but was denied a ride by the driver, who said his tires couldn’t handle her weight. The incident was captured in a TikTok video, where the driver suggested she request a Lyft XL.

Blanding filed a lawsuit on January 27, claiming her civil rights were violated and that refusing transportation based on weight is discriminatory. Her attorney argues that such discrimination is no different from refusing someone based on race or religion. Blanding is seeking damages for emotional distress, humiliation, and other damages. Lyft has condemned discrimination and is investigating the case.

The incident has sparked online debate, with some supporting the driver, citing safety concerns, while others argue it’s discriminatory. The legal proceedings could impact how rideshare companies handle such cases in the future.
