Firefighter paramedic fatally stabbed in heart by patient he was trying to help

Firefighter-paramedic Graham Hoffman, 29, tragically lost his life on April 27 while doing what he loved – helping others. During a routine call, he was fatally stabbed in the chest by 38-year-old Shanetta Bossell, a patient he was transporting to the hospital. Despite immediate efforts, Hoffman died from his injuries.

Bossell also attempted to hijack the ambulance and attacked a police officer before being arrested. She now faces murder and armed criminal action charges and is held on $1 million bond.

Hoffman, remembered as a kind, skilled, and dedicated professional, had been with the Kansas City Fire Department since 2022 and had responded to thousands of calls. Colleagues and city officials praised him as a role model and a compassionate caregiver who truly loved serving his community. His former instructor called him “one of my favorite students” and said he never received a single complaint. The community, devastated by the loss, is honoring his memory with black bands on badges and flags at half-staff.

Graham Hoffman’s legacy lives on as a loving son, respected colleague, and selfless hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻
