Steve Bannon Suggests Trump 2028 Could Happen Despite Constitutional Ban

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon says Donald Trump may seek a third presidential term in 2028, despite the U.S. Constitution barring it. The 22nd Amendment, adopted in 1951, prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice. But Bannon claims Trump’s team is exploring “many different alternatives” to make it happen. His statements come as “Trump 2028” merchandise, bearing slogans like “rewrite the rules,” hits the market—hinting at a push to challenge or bypass the term limit law.

Legal experts say three potential workarounds could be explored: Trump running as vice president, becoming VP and then assuming office, or amending the Constitution—all of which would face legal and political obstacles.

Trump himself has floated the idea in interviews, saying many people encourage him to run again, though he’s avoided specifics. In a recent interview with TIME, he hinted at known “loopholes,” but added, “I don’t believe in using loopholes.”
