Donald Trump Reacts To Pope Leo XIV’s Appointment — Says He Looks Forward To Meeting Him

Donald Trump reacted to the announcement of Pope Francis’ successor, joking that he wanted to be the next pope himself. Following the death of Pope Francis, Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, was chosen as the new pope and took the papal name Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first American pope in history.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump congratulated Cardinal Prevost, calling it a “great honor for our country.” He also expressed excitement about meeting Pope Leo XIV, describing it as a “meaningful moment.”

Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago and previously served as the general of the Order of Saint Augustine and the Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru. The selection was made after a conclave of cardinals, and a two-thirds majority vote resulted in his election.
