Pope Leo XIV Urges World Leaders To End All Wars In First Sunday Address

Pope Leo XIV, in his first Sunday address as the newly elected pope, called for peace, urging world leaders to end all wars. He emphasized an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine, and praised the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement. Addressing the crowd at St. Peter’s Basilica, he declared, “Never again war.” He also referenced Pope Francis, calling the ongoing global conflicts a “third world war in pieces.”

Pope Leo, who took office on May 8, 2025, also wished a happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, including those in heaven. His speech gained attention, particularly due to his past social media posts critical of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Pope Leo has shared posts condemning Trump’s policies on immigration and the separation of families at the border, as well as his vice president JD Vance’s views. Despite this, Trump congratulated Pope Leo on his election, calling it a “great honor” for the U.S.
