Texas woman’s chilling final text before house washed away

rapidly rose due to heavy overnight rains. The floodwaters swept through Kerr County, destroying homes and causing widespread tragedy. Among those affected was 21-year-old Joyce Badon, who was staying at a country house along the river with friends Ella Cahill, Reese Manchaca, and Aiden Heartfield.

Joyce sent a final heartbreaking text message to her family saying, “we’re being washed away,” moments before the floodwaters overwhelmed their home. The group’s last contact was during a phone call with Aiden’s father, in which Aiden said he needed to help Ella and Reese just before the call abruptly ended.

The house was completely destroyed by the flood. Search teams, including volunteers and family members, combed the riverbanks and debris for Joyce and her friends. On July 7, Joyce’s body was found, followed later by Reese’s body. Aiden and Ella remain missing.

Joyce’s mother shared emotional messages on social media, thanking the community for their prayers and support, and expressing hope to find the missing friends. The tragic event has claimed at least 107 lives across six counties, including many children and camp counselors.

The search continues as families and volunteers hold onto hope amid the devastation caused by the flash floods.
